After completing basic training at Camp Pendleton, 19-year-old Marine Mike Holland (Nick Cannon) spends a four-day Thanksgiving leave with his family and friends in Bakersfield.

He can't bring himself to tell them what comes next for him: his first tour of Iraq. As Mike tries to reconnect with his mother, stepfather and sister as well as say goodbye to his best friend " in distress" Jake before shipping out, he develops an awareness of the precarious future he faces. Instead of spending time with his disintegrating family or the lifelong friend eft behind, Nick continually thinks about seeing Cristina (Melonie Diaz), a casually flirtation he had on the bus into town. Torn between past and future, Nick has only a few days to decide between staying a boy and becoming a man.
