Marco comments on both the style of hair and fashion of the red carpet!
THE WOMEN:
Modernized versions of the 50's and 60's hit the red carpet yesterday at the 2010 Emmy's. People like:
Kyra Sedgwick,
![]()
and Angela Kinsey
Both sported minimal eye make-up with a colorful lip.
Opting for a different look were:
Lea Michele,
Sarah Hyland,
Jayma Mays went for a 60's-inspired Bridgette Bardot with lots of volume at the crown of the head, smoky eyes, and nude lips.Even Tina Fey embraced the 60's hair look by doing a simple pony-tail with lots of volume on the crown.
How do you get 60's hair?
The quickest and easiest way is to grab those hot rollers from the back of your closet and give yourself an old-fashioned 60's set. Brush the curls out with your trusty Mason Pearson brush, tease your crown and then use a polishing serum to tame fly-aways and add extra shine.
For a modernized version, use a curling iron to create more texturized waves. This will give you the 60's volume with the ever-so-popular beach wave. When styling your hair, make sure that your hair has time to set properly, as your look needs to last all day. The last thing you want is your style to fall flat because it hasn't been set long enough.
Also, keep dry shampoo on hand to maintain your style and volume throughout the day.
THE MEN:

Men, such as John Hamm, much like his character on Mad Men, went for ultra-groomed.
Cory MonteithWe saw a lot of close shaves and controlled hair, while celebrities like Cory Monteith and Matthew Morrison achieved allowed their texture to show through for a clean, natural look.
A slight touch of perfect American Crew Matte Wax is the simplest way to achieve this look.
Emmy's 2010 has proven that make-up isn't solely for women anymore
(Stevie note: It's not just Adam Lambert that's wearing the makeup, peeps! Guys want to look perfect and they aren't immune to sweat or breakouts either) . There were obvious signs of men's cosmetics, taking grooming to the next level. It's not just about the perfect shave or skincare, but about using other tools to achieve that handsome red-carpet look. For any big event, try to get a trim five to seven days before. Freshly cut hair never looks good as slightly grown out hair. Also a facial the week before will help rid your skin of impurities and dead skin cells that make getting that red-carpet close shave difficult.
Using higher-quality shaving products well before will also help alleviate or diminish razor rash. If razor rash is unavoidable, use a medicated concealer that will not only camouflage your skin, but will accelerate the healing.
Thank you to Marco Beradini for his insight, tips and tricks for those who walk the red carpet so that we mere mortals and use them too.
