Movies & DVDS to Hit This Holiday Season! The Hurt Locker & District 9 Are Must-See Movies!

While everyone is waiting for the next batch of big ticket movies, there are a few that didn't get your attention when they first released perhaps but definitely caught mine. I spent most of this summer haunting theaters for unusual dramas that were quite incredible.

One that's back in theaters that you realy must see is HURT LOCKER . This movie is extremely intense, the violence is so real and it's as close to the real situation that is dealt with by our armed services as to be incredible. I know a number of people who have said it's very close to reality of being overseas. While this might or might not change your feelings about the war, it does give you a greater appreciation for what the men and women do overseas when serving in combat. Given that this movie follows a squad of 3 men and each has a role to play and is part of a triangle, it's really interesting and Jeremy Renner is absollutely astounding. I still can see his face from the movie, hear his voice and know his character's near-absolute awareness of what he was doing and where to look to find mines and bombs. Incredible is the best thing I can say about it. I have had these images for over 6 months and held onto them while waiting to get them into the queue.. and now the movie and Renner are nominated for the Golden Globes and should be recognized at Oscar time as well. The director is incredible.

District 9 is now out on DVD and it's also a "must -see". This documentary style drama is presented as an allegory to apartheid and even those who combat gay marriage. Think of the aliens as people--rather than "those creatures" and suddenly they are more human. Despite their different appearance and language, one of the South African government officials becomes exposed to the biotechnology his government wants to use on these creatures.

District 9 Trailer

The goal is really to exterminate them and use their exo-skeletal weapons for their own purposes. However the movie also focuses on the poor sap who is exposed and starts morphing into those creatures who he so abhors and realizes are his only hope of regaining his human form-- though he still has his humanity. Graphic violence is quite prevalent. It permeates the film. It's not for the squeamish-- but it is extremelly powerful in its' message. And if you can handle it, see it.
Know that this kind of treatment goes on in various areas of the globe today-- and even here in this country by trying to segregate a certain category or segment of the population.
