Lifestyle Bytes: Minimalist OC Talks About Living Life with Less!

New on the scene is a blogger whom I know and she told me she was constructing a blog and I waited a bit before hitting it. I wanted to give her space to create her voice and she's done just that. Minimalist OC is quite frankly about minimlism as a lifestyle -- particularly in the luxe-driven OC (Orange County, CA. Read Newport Beach, Corona Del Mar, Laguna Beach, Irvine, Mission Viejo, Huntington Beach). I used to live in the OC and I was the fashion editor for the leading regional magazine for just over 2 years and I know what it's like to live there and sometimes it's a gauntlet to run while living -- and working-- in that environment.

What's so interesting about this blog is that this woman writing it is really sharing her life with you. She's clear, concise and precise about sharing what happened to her life and how it started going downhill. (Companies downsize and she got into that pit). The details of the story of how she got to where she realized that major life changes needed to occur do matter-- though she didn't have to give us the situation, MInimalist OC shares those with the world.

This isn't just a financial blog, but it's also about de-stressing your life by ditching some of the stuff you have. Let's talk about traveling. I am as guilt as the next person about packing too much stuff. Obviously Minimalist has the same problem as I do and she tells you all about her experiences in hauling 60 pound suitcases by herself when there are no elevators and no porters or bell men.

What's really interesting is what she did to change that situation on her own and it made me realize that even when I packed for 2 vacations this summer, I packed lighter than I previously (though I did forget things like sandals which are important when you are going to be at a lake or extra tees when you are going to Hawaii).

Another point that Minimalist makes is about clutter-- or possessions you have but hesitate to ditch. I have some of the same issues, but have been starting to declutter but I will take heart & guidance from Minimalist OC's manner of dealing with things a little at a time. I find that donating things (books, clothing and even packing up a large box of odd little things that are brand new that I will never use to a girls camp back east for under-privileged girls).

I am actually glad I subscribed to this blog because it's got me on a path of cleaning out some of the messes in my office as well as my closet (which has been on a steady pruning diet all year) and it makes me feel accomplished when I can realize that someone else can maybe use these things more than I can.

You should be reading http://minimalistoc.wordpress.com/. She's a good read and has great practical tips.
