Food Bytes: Papa John's Specialty Pizza Contest Is Calling YOU!
Here I am talking about a pizza contest and you might be thinking I have lost my mind. Nope. Here's my disclosure-- I know one of the contestants for the Papa John's Specialty Pizza Contest. She made the finals!! There are three pizzas and having tried them, I have to say that I like hers the best.
The three pizza recipes are:
Cheesy Chicken Cordon Bleu created by: Barbara Hyman of Los Angeles, Calif.
Crust/Sauce: Original Crust with Spinach Alfredo Sauce
Ingredients: Grilled Chicken, Ham, Onions, Extra Mozzarella Cheese, Three Cheese Blend

Barbara Hyman making the Cheesy Cordon Bleu Pizza
Big Bonanza created by: Blair Dial of Springfield, Ill.
Crust/Sauce: Original Crust with Barbeque Sauce
Ingredients: Bacon (double portion), Beef, Ham, Jalapeno Peppers, Onions, Roma Tomatoes, Mozzarella Cheese
The Workin' Fire created by: Kendra Chapman of Ball Ground, Ga.
Crust/Sauce: Original Crust with Traditional Sauce
Ingredients: Jalapeno Peppers, Pepperoni, Spicy Italian Sausage, Mozzarella Cheese, Parmesan/Romano Cheese
Why did Barbara Hyman enter? Simply a way to show her daughter just how good Chicken Cordon Bleu could be -- and I think she did an amazing job. According to Barbara
"My daughter didn't think Chicken Cordon Bleu, with chicken, spinach, cheese and ham served layered sounded delicious, but I assured her, it was. When I saw Papa John's Slice of the Sales contest I thought that would be a great way for her to try it, and I was right! She loved it! It turns out, spinach can taste good, the Papa John's way. If my pizza sells more than the other two specialty pizzas on the menu, I win $10,000 and will donate at least $1,000 to help rescue Gulf Coast oiled wildlife!
When I became a finalist in Papa John's Specialty Pizza Challenge, I knew it was my chance to make a difference. Help me win by spreading the word on Facebook, calling and emailing your friends. Then, August 2-29th, 2010, please frequently order NUMEROUS CHEESY CHICKEN CORDON BLEU PIZZAs from Papa John's to help me and endangered Gulf Coast oiled wildlife win. You don't even have to eat them. Take them to a homeless shelter or school, or share it with friends! They're delicious no matter how they are served. Order it vegetarian/Kosher style, hold the meat, add tomato! If we can make a difference by eating pizza together, we can do anything!
Recipe: Papa John's Cheesy Chicken Cordon Bleu Pizza is: Freshly baked original Papa John's crust, topped with Spinach Alfredo sauce, grilled chicken, sliced onions, a layer of sliced ham, mozarella cheese, and extra 3 Cheese Blend baked on top with a crispy crust, served piping hot, the Papa John's way!"
You can find Barbara Hyman's story here in the Culver City News

The local Papa John's cooperative has agreed to match Hyman's donation of $1000 to the National Wildlife Federation if she wins-- for a total of $2,000 for the National Wildlife Federation if she wins the Papa John's Specialty Pizza Challenge on September 2nd!
Each finalist was given $1000 to do a marketing push-- and that's not a lot of money to get the word out about this contest or about the entries. While I rarely eat fast-food and had never had a Papa John's Pizza before, this particular pizza was delivered to my house

Here's the box before it was hit by 2 very hungry people + me..
Here's what happened in less than 5 minutes-- and I had one piece

The "kid" loved it enough to scarf down 3 pieces, someone else had 2 and then I had one and a bit of another slice. Gone fast. The vote was that this was the best pizza we had ever had delivered plus it really had a unique taste and texture to it. It wasn't like any pizza we had before.
So please try this specific pizza from your local Papa John's store. You can order online and they deliver. It's worth $12 to get the pizza. We got a coupon for the next specialty pizza *(Cheesy Chicken Cordon Bleu) for $10. Don't know if all stores are participating in that promotion but I know it's going on in So. California.
Definitely worth a second and third round-- one great pizza recipe plus you would be helping the National Wildlife Federation if Barbara wins-- $2000 minimum donation.
So order one today and send one to an office or a homeless shelter.
